  1. bathing-In Japan there are public baths split into male and female sections. But whether you bath at a public bath or in a home, you scrub yourself clean and rinse off before you go into the tub. The tub is for soaking your muscles, and when you are done if you are in a private residence, you should recover the tub not drain it, in case someone else wishes to take a soak. Scrubbing in the tub is very bad manners!

  2. fox-kitsune: in Japanese mythology the fox, racoon, and weasel had the ability to shapeshift into humans and were known to play practical jokes on humans.

  3. idols: Idols for the most part have a brief time in the spotlight, they tend to be found in idol contests, their image is sold and used in music, television and movies, as well as print media. Most idols last less than a year.

  4. kissing: Public displays of affection are taboo in Japan, you'll rarely see a couple do more than holding hands or a brief hug in any public setting, kissing is quite intimate. In fact drinking from a cup someone else has drinken out of constitutes an indirect kiss, but a kiss still the same.

  5. love: For those individuals who have found "true love," it is believed that they are connected by a string. This string enables them to know when the other is in trouble, and to even hear their voices. This pops up in anime quite often.

  6. names:The Japanese go by their family names, and only close family members or friends know their first names, and all names besides your own have an appropriate honorific attached.

  7. nosebleeds: nosebleeds occur in male anime characters after they have seen something they find arousing.

  8. racoon tanuki: *see fox

  9. raven: Ravens have the same symbolism in the east as they do in the west, they are often depicted as messengers of the gods or other supernatural beings and are used around death.

  10. school: Japanese schools are architectural very similar. Students must qualify to go to both high school and college through rigorous testing and you have to take different tests fro every school you apply to. Also the teachers have a mandatory syllabus that they must follow published by the government, so all students study the same things. Uniforms are mandatory, and msot schools prohibit their students from having a part time job. School is year round.

  11. sweatdrop: The sweatdrop is a stylized image used in anime to denote incredulity at something which just occured.

  12. superdeform: This is a style of caricature in which a normal anime character is shrunk in an out of proportion manner for comedic effect.
